Trace the history of Epcot through the years with this collection of photographs from a fan's perspective. We take you back to Horizons, World of Motion, Wonders of Life, and other pavilions that have changed over the years, like the original versions of Universe of Energy, Journey into Imagination, Spaceship Earth, and the Living Seas. We also track alternations and additions to World Showcase over time, as well as the various events and entertainment offerings. With over 500 color photographs, the vast majority of which were chosen because they illustrate items you can no longer see in today's Epcot, this book provides a tour of the past unlike any other. There is also a black & white version of this book available as a separate title. Allears.net says this book is "like an Epcot travelogue! The hundreds of beautiful photos will provide readers with an illustrated trip around the park any time they feel the need for an Epcot fix." The reviewer also admits "I have heard many Disney fans lament the demise of Horizons, but I never understood what the attraction was about, or how it worked (multiple endings?), but after reading the description of the attraction, and seeing the amazing pictures, I can now see what it is that others miss." [Kindle edition review] I was very disappointed in this book. I had high expectations to see a great walkthrough of the history of the park and its many attractions. But this book barely has any of that, It barely counts as a retrospective. I've seen online photo galleries with deeper content. My main issues:
- Hardly any work was done formatting it for the Kindle. Instead of matching the captions to the pictures, the author just decided to throw all of the pictures at the end with no context or discussion. But the author did not change the text to reflect this. So we have short, broken up passages that discuss specific images and scenes with no context at all.
- Major sections of rides are barely discussed. In addition, the history of the rides (what I really came for) - their building, design teams behind them, early concepts, etc. - stuff usually in retrospectives and histories was almost completely missing. What exists can pretty much be summed up as "Hey remember this? Here are a few things the ride did. It was around for this time period before it changed. Here are a few pics."
Granted my expectations may have been too high. this is "unauthorized". but I expected at least a minimum amount of work put into this. Save your money, just look online on wikipedia and online photo galleries. you probably won't find any better info in this book.

Epcot The First Thirty Years Color Version An Unofficial Retrospective Jeff Lange Kevin Yee 9780984844517 Books Reviews
Excellent retrospective of EPCOT during the early years. Highly enjoyable, detailed and we'll presented. Treasure on my Disney book collection shelf.
Really enjoyed it. Fun facts.
GREAT history book == recommend highly.
A very informative book on the history of Epcot or EPCOT Center as I knew it growing up. It's fun to relive the pavilions and learn about the changes and revisions made to each ride in the park. The pictures only compliment the book and add a sense of depth to the narrative. I think because of this I would have given it 5 stars if there were more pictures that focused on each pavilion's scenes in greater detail.
Bought this with considerable anticipation and excitement which, sadly, lasted only a few minutes after seeing the really poor quality photography and many useless photos that are just of signs that existed within the attractions. Very few reasonably good photos and a huge number of unlabeled photos without captions. Even the writing is 2nd rate at best. This was clearly a feeble effort just rushed out to get as much money as possible by Disney fans happy to see anything about the 30th anniversary of Epcot. Serious Disney fans should save their money and enjoy the free online videos that others have noted. Disney will likely eventually put out a superior product in book form that will not disappoint.
The good-the book is FULL of great pictures and information regarding EPCOT's history.
The bad-It looks like it was just thrown together. The layout is VERY basic and no design went into creating it.
(I may be a little bias because I am a graphic designer by trade though)
I would still recommend this book to anyone who is into Disney's/EPCOT's history.
The book is fine, but do not have much new information to anyone who is a fan of this park.
It recognizes the work of gathering images and love the author has for EPCOT.
There's something I can not pass, on one of the pages Walt Disney is quoted with the following statement If you can dream it, you can do it ... he never said this quote, was Tom Fitzgerald, sorry, but I could not pass this error.
